  • On August 11, 1961, Dadar Nagar Haveli was merged with India and it was made a Union Territory. Nagar Haveli is situated between Maharashtra and Gujarat, while Dadar Gujarat region. The capital of this union territory is Silvassa, it was ruled by the Marathas until 1779 and again by the Portuguese Empire till 1954.
  • It got liberation from the Portuguese rule on August 2, 1954. In this way, in 1961, it is working as an independent state. At that time, its administrative responsibility was with the independent Dadra and Nagar Haveli administration.
