Madras state was renamed to Tamilnadu

In the year 1968, the proposal to change the name of the state of Madras to Tamil Nadu was accepted in the Lok Sabha on 22 November. On January 14, 1969 the state was named Tamil Nadu. In 1996, the name of the capital was changed from Madras to Chennai.
