Birth Special: Kandukuri Veeresalingam
Kandukuri Veeresalingam (born 16 April 1848, Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh; Death- 27th May, 1919) Famous scholars of Telugu language, who got fame as 'Ghadhi Brahma' in modern Telugu literature. Born in the Sanatan Pranthi Brahmin family, Veeresalingam was a staunch opponent of caste. He initiated caste protest movement Vireshalingam 's life goal was not ideal, but conduct. That's why they established widow's ashrams. In order to encourage female education, he established schools in 1884 in Dhlaveshwaram near Rajamundry and in 1884 in Inispeta for girls. Veresh Singhal, the originator of the modern Telugu prose literature, earned the reputation as the first novelist, first playwright and promoter of modern journalism.
Progressive Conscious Representatives
In the era of Veeresalingam i.e. in the last phase of the 19th century, the wave of cultural awakening was running across the country. The feudal structure was broken. The sensitive middle class was ready in the country, which started thinking in terms of broad national and social interests. This class experienced that there is a need for reform in all social, political, economic, religious and cultural areas. Just as the Bharatendu Harishchandra was the representative of this progressive consciousness in the history of Hindi literature, in the same way, Kandukuri Veresh Singh Pantulu was a representative of progressive consciousness in the history of Telugu literature. He gave message of Jagaran through the works of social reform, speeches and literature.
Establishment of Brahma Samaj
Veeresalingam was a staunch opponent of caste. He initiated caste protest movement Just as Raja Ram Mohan Roy had established Brahma Samaj, in the same way Andhra Kandukuri Veeresalingam established Andhra society in Andhra Pradesh, established Brahma Samaj. In 1887 he founded the 'Brahmo Temple' in Rajamundry.
