US refuses to give green card to migrants seeking government facilities

On 12 August 2019, the Trump administration made it more difficult for legal immigrants to become United States citizens, saying that green cards could be denied to those who enjoy public facilities such as 'food stamps' or 'housing assistance'.

The Trump administration has enacted these new rules to prevent illegal immigration. The new rules will come into effect from October 15. In the US, many residents benefit from many government schemes of food, medicine, housing and public welfare.

  • Under this new rule, people whose income will not be under the required criteria or who want government help such as food aid, government hospitals or government homes, it may be very difficult to get permission to enter the US in future.
