UN initiates Road Safety Trust funding in view of road accidents around the world
United Nations (UN) Deputy Secretary Amina Mohammed launched the Road Safety Trust Fund on 12th April, 2018, in view of the increasing road accidents in India and Canada, especially in India and Canada.
In the context of the global scenario, deaths in road accidents have become a serious problem.
According to UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), one contributing to the fund can save one life from $ 1,500 and 10 serious injuries can be prevented and 51,000 dollars can be availed for investment in road safety. .
This fund will be used to reduce the number of deaths and casualties in road accidents and to provide safe and smooth transport system.
Due to road accidents:
Due to road accidents, nearly 13 lakh drivers, motorists and pedestrians die every year. About five crore people are injured. This fund is being launched to protect the lives of people and to compensate for the loss.
The United Nations General Assembly has also accepted a proposal brought by Russia, in which several measures have been taken to reduce road accidents and damage.

This road safety will support efforts with the five pillars of the Global Plan for the Decade of Action for 2011-20.
