TESS discovered planet the three times bigger than Earth

TESS discovered planet the three times bigger than Earth. Transit Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), a satellite of NASA, has discovered a new planet outside the solar system. This is the third planet, discovered by TESS. Scientists believe that this is a great achievement in the direction of life-seeking potential.

According to information released by scientists, there may be a possibility of life on this planet due to the thick atmosphere. The team that discovered this new planet was led by Professor Diana Dragomir of the Institute for Astrophysics and Space Research, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). According to him,  revolving around the Sun like a bright star, it is the coolest small planet, till now.

New planets

  • This planet is 53 light-years away from the Earth. This planet has been named HD 21749 B.
  • This planet is circling the bright Dwarf star like the Sun in the Reticulum constellation.
  •  Even after being close to the star, the surface temperature of this planet is 300 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • HD 21749B takes 36 days to complete the orbiting of its star.
  • The HD 21749 B is the the coolest planet ever so far orbiting the hot star.
  • NASA's TESS mission has discovered 3 planets and 6 supernovas in three months. HD 21749B is its most recent discovery.

Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS)

  •  After Kepler spacecraft, NASA launched TESS to explore exoplanets in April 2018.
  •  In its two-year campaign, TESS is studying planets and bright stars located 30 to 300 light years away.
  • The goal of satellite developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is to find thousands of planets that are outside our solar system.
  • This spacecraft is a fridge-shaped and equipped with four cameras. TESS is on mission for almost two years and will almost scour the whole sky.
