President approved appointment of four judges in Supreme Court

President Ramnath Kovind recently gave his approval to the appointment of four new judges in the Supreme Court. After signing the appointment order of President Ramnath Kovind, the Law Ministry issued the notification.

The judges who have been appointed as new judges of the Supreme Court include Justice B.R. Gavain of Bombay High Court, Himachal Pradesh High Court's Chief Justice Suryakant, Jharkhand's Chief Justice Anirudh Bose and Guwahati High Court's Chief Justice AS Bopanna.

Judges in Supreme Court

  • With the appointment of these four judges in the Supreme Court, now the total number of judges has gone up to 31.
  • The four judges can take oath soon.
  • After the 2010 the Supreme Court will have fixed the number of judges for the first time.
  • Referring to seniority, the government had asked the court to think again on the recommendation of Justice Aniruddha Bose and Justice AS Bopanna.
  • After this, the Collegium had recommended the appointment of Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court Justice Aniruddha Bose and Chief Justice of the Guwahati High Court Justice AS Bopanna as the judge in the Supreme Court on April 12.
  • Earlier, the Supreme Court Collegium had promoted Bombay High Court Judge Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai and Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court Justice Suryakant on May 9, 2019, to be the Judge of the Supreme Court.
  • In the joint seniority list of the All-India High Court Judges, Justice Anirudh Bose is at the 12th place, while Justice AS Bopanna is at 36th position.
  • Justice Dhirubhai N Patel is appointed Chief Justice of Delhi.
  • Ajay Kumar Mittal is appointed Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court.
  • Justice Patel will be the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court from 07 June 2019.
  • At the same time, Justice Mittal will take charge of the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court on May 28, 2019.
  • He is currently posted in Punjab and Haryana High Court.
  •  According to the Law Ministry, Talwant Singh, Rajneesh Bhatnagar, Asha Menon and Brajesh Sethi have been appointed as Judges of the Delhi High Court.
