Old Age Pension Scheme launched by CM NItish Kumar in Bihar

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar launched the Chief Minister's Old Age Pension Scheme on June 14, 2019. Under this scheme, the amount of pension for the months of April and May of the pension scheme in the bank account of the elderly was transferred.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed the hope that 35 to 36 lakh people will be applied for the benefit of this scheme. On the occasion of the launch of this scheme in the Communication Room located in the Chief Minister's Secretariat, the Chief Minister said that BPL or APL will get benefits of this scheme to all the elderly.

Highlights of Scheme

  • For this scheme, all elderly persons aged 60 years and above can apply.
  • Any old person below poverty line (BPL) or Above poverty line (APL) can apply for it.
  • In the form of pension, he will get four hundred rupees per month, which can not get any kind of pension.
  • Upon the age of eighty years, the amount of pension will be five hundred rupees per month.
  • The application can be done in the RTPS center and online facility is also given.
  • Aadhaar card for the application is mandatory.
  • The pension will be received from the 1st April 2019.

Seniors Respect Act

  • Parents and Senior Citizens' Reservation Act passed by Bihar cabinet was amended twice.
  • There has been provision for lodging the complaint directly to the SDO with the parents facing the neglect of the family's torture in Bihar.
  • If the order passed by SDO does not adhere to the order, the affected guardian has the right to appeal to the District Magistrate, who can be punished in his order.

Other information

Effective from April 1, 2019, the benefits of this scheme will not be retired government employees.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that the state government has created a special fund of Rs 18,000 crore for this scheme, which will give honor and prestige to poor elders. So far, more than two lakh people have applied online for the pension.
