Nageshwar Rao appointed new CBI Director

The Central Government has appointed Joint Director M Nageshwar Rao as the Interim Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Alok Verma. After the dispute between the CBI director Alok Verma and Special Director Rakesh Asthana, the government has sent both the directors on leave.

M Nageshwar Rao has been asked to take charges and responsibilities of the CBI director with immediate effect. This is the first such case in the history of the country's top investigative agency.

M Nageshwar Rao: M Nageshwar Rao is a resident of Warangal district of Telangana. He is the IPS officer of the 1986 batch of Odisha cadre.

He has been an Additional Director in Odisha Police (Railway). He studied Post Graduation from Osmanya University. After this he did research from IIT Madras.

After coming to CBI headquarters, Nageshwar Rao has been responsible for several states including Odisha, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal.

Awarded and Honors: Nageshwar Rao has been awarded the President's Police Medal, the Special Duty Medal and the Governor of Odisha, for his best services.

First officer to Use of DNA fingerprinting techniques: He was the first officer to use DNA fingerprinting technology in Crime Investigation to find out the case of rape in Jagatsinghpur district in the year 1996. His contribution in the crime branch is important.

Rao vs insurgency: While working as DGP (Operations) of CRPF in Manipur, Nageshwar Rao's work against militancy was highly appreciated. Rao also played a key role in the operation of Lalgarh in 2008 against Naxalites in Kolkata. During the Kandhamal violence in 2008, Rao played an important role in the form of the then CRPF IG in removing the tension prevailing in the area.

Nageshwar Rao raided CBI headquarters: Nageshwar Rao raided the CBI headquarters as soon as he took charge on 24th October, 2018. Along with this, action has been taken against two more officers. Two officials named Manish Sinha and AK Sharma have also been removed. This big action has been taken against the CBI on the instructions of Prime Minister Modi.

Complete issue: It is worth mentioning that the agency had lodged FIR against Rakesh Asthana and several others on 21 October 2018 for allegedly bribing meat exporter Moin Qureshi. Quraishi is facing many cases of money laundering and corruption. The next hearing will be on October 29.

The CBI has alleged that between December 2017 and October 2018, bribe has been given at least five times. DSP Devendra Kumar was arrested a day after this. The problems of Rakesh Asthana are increasing. After the FIR in the case of bribery, the CBI has now filed a case of forgery and extortion on Asthana.

The CBI has registered a case against its own special director Rakesh Asthana. Special director Rakesh Asthana, who reached the High Court against the report filed by the CBI, has made serious allegations against the CBI director Alok Verma in the petition.
