Mass Drug Day was celebrated in India on 07 March 2019

Union Chemicals and Fertilizers, Road Transport and Highways, Minister of State for Transport Mansukh Mandviya recently announced that in India every year on 07 March 2019, the Mass Drug Day will be celebrated.

To create awareness about the use of generic medicines, it has been decided to celebrate Jananaushadhi Diwas on 7th March, 2019 throughout India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also interacted with the beneficiaries of the schemes of the owners and people of Jan Aushadhi Centers in the country through video conferencing. At least one Prime Minister Bhartiya Janudhasi Yojna (PMBJP) center will be set up in all the blocks of the country by 2020.

As part of the Mass Drug Day celebration, programs were organized at all PMBJP centers to increase awareness about this scheme. These programs included the involvement of doctors, health experts, non-governmental organizations and beneficiaries.

Prime Minister Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojna (PMBJP)

Prime Minister Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojna (PMBJP) is a scheme announced by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi on July 01, 2015. In this scheme, the prices of high quality Generic Drugs are being reduced by the government by the market price. Public drug stores have been made by the government, where generic medicines are being provided.

Pradhan Mantri Jan Drugs Campaign has basically started to make the public aware so that the public can understand that generic medicines are available at lower prices compared to branded medicine and there is no dearth of quality in it. Also, these generic medicines are available in the market, which can be easily obtained.

Benefits of Scheme

Self-employment sources are also available with permanent and regular earnings through PMBJP.

According to a survey conducted by the Bureau of Pharma PSU of India (BPPI), the average sale per month has increased up to Rs 1.50 lakh per store (including OTC and other products).

Four large warehouses have been opened in Delhi, Guwahati, Bengaluru, Chennai so that adequate availability of public medicines can be ensured at all PMBJP centers.

A wide range of affordable health products available in pre-launch and PMBJP centers were displayed under the PMBJP scheme.
