Indian origin,Rita Baranwal appointed chief of US nuclear department

President Donald Trump has decided to appoint Indian-American civilian nuclear expert Rita Baranwal on the important administrative post of the Ministry of Energy. This decision has been taken by President Donald Trump shortly after signing a new law to accelerate the development of modern reactors.

Baranwal is currently working as Director in Gateway for Accelerated Innovation in Nuclear (GAIN). On final confirmation from the Senate, Baranwal will be heading the Department of Atomic Energy as Assistant Energy Secretary. She will be responsible for the development and management of the Department of Atomic Technology Research and Department of Atomic Technology infrastructure of this department.

Who is Rita Baranwal:

• Baranwal has studied BA from MIT in Materials Science and Engineering and PhD from University of Michigan.

• She is also on the Advisory Board of MIT Substance Research Laboratory and the Department of Atomic Engineering of UC Berkeley.

• Earlier she has worked as a director of technology development and application at Westinghouse.

• She has been a manager in substance technology at the basel betis.

• There she led research and development in nuclear power for American naval reactors.

Comment: In a recent presentation, Rita Baranwal said that the US nuclear industry is capable of supplying innovative nuclear technology for the need of clean energy at home and globally. Baranwal said that the energy generated by the commercial nuclear energy industry will change our country again. Now, new, small and efficient reactors are being developed to meet the energy demand and fight climate change.
