Dr. Harshvardhan, Union Forest, Environment and Climate Change, launched the Green Skill Development Program (GSDP) on May 14, 2018. The objective of this program is to meet the increasing demand of skilled workforce for conservation of the environment.
Under this program, more than five and a half lakhs of youth will be trained in the work related to environmental work in the next three years. During this period, 30 types of training programs will also be started and by the year 2021, trained youth will be prepared for environmental protection. On this occasion, a mobile application called GSDP-ENVIS was also launched so that interested applicants can get more information about the program.
Green Skills Development Program (GSDP)
The objective of this program is to create employment and entrepreneurship related to the environment within the youth of the country.
Under this, the government will train about 80,000 youth in 80 institutions of the country within the next one year.
Their number will be 2 lakh next year and by 2021, about 5.5 lakh youths will be trained as Green Skelete Workers.
With the help of institutions of the country, with the help of HVs and Resource Partners, the Environmental Information System (ENVIS) will train youth in the environment and environment through almost 30 courses. This certificate course will be between 80 to 560 hours. More information on the course can be obtained through the mobile app.
Most of these courses have been prepared for the 10th or 12th dropouts. These include Courses such as River Dolphin Conservation, Water Budgeting and Auditing, Forest Fire Meagment, Management for Small Botanical Garden, Progression and Management of Bamboos, Bulled Identification and City Environment Surveyors.
Green Skills Development Program (GSDP) was first launched in 10 districts of the country under the pilot project in 2017. Under this 154 youths were trained. Most of these school drop-out youth were included. He was trained as a paratoxonomist and biodegradation advisor. Given the success of the pilot project, the government decided to start GSPD fully.
