Famous Litterateur and critic Namvar Singh died

Famous critic and literary name of Namvar Singh died in Delhi on February 19, 2019. He breathed his last in Delhi's AIIMS. Namvar Singh was 93 years old. They were walking ill for a long time.

In Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), he has an admirable contribution in the establishment of Bharatiya Bhasha Kendra and his taking Hindi literature to a new place. He gave a new identity to the criticism mode in Hindi. Their work and their contribution will affect many generations even after they leave.

Namwar Singh:

  • Namvar Singh was born on July 28, 1926 in jiyanpur village of Banaras district (now Chandauli).
  • Namvar Singh started his writing with poetry, and in the year 1941, his first poem was published in 'Kshatriyamitra' magazine.
  • He intermediated from Matric and Uday Pratap College from Hewat Kshatriya School of Varanasi.
  • Namvar Singh got BA from Kashi Hindu University (BHU) in 1949 and MA in Hindi from there in 1951. He also did PhD from Kashi Hindu University in Hindi Literature.
  • He has long been known as the most critical critic and critic of Hindi, his poetry, Namvar Singh and books like review, criticism and ideology are known.
  • In Alochna, his books are famous for Prithviraj Raso's language, Itihas Aur Alochna, Kahani Nai Kahani, Kavita Ke Naye Pratiman, Dusri Parampara Ki Khoj, Vaad Vivad Samvad etc. His interview ‘Kahna Na Hoga’ is also popular in the literary world.
  • He was also awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award. Namvar Singh was also a strong speaker.
  • In addition to teaching and writing, he has also edited two journals of Jain Yuga and criticism Hindi.
  • He was also the President of Raja Rammohan Roy Library Foundation from 1993 to 1996.
  • Indian Communist Party Candidates:
  • He was the candidate of the Communist Party of India for the Lok Sabha elections from Chakia Chandauli seat in 1959. He contested from Chakia-Chandauli constituency from the Communist Party of India, but he had to face defeat.

Long-term teaching work:

Namvar Singh, a well-known critic of Hindi literature, did a long time teaching work in Kashi Hindu University (BHU) in Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). In 1970, Jodhpur University (Rajasthan) was appointed as Professor of the post of Chairman of the Hindi Department. In 1974, Professor was appointed at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi, and from there he was retired in the year 1987. Then he was reappointed in his JNU for the next five years.
