DTC and Cluster Buses will run by Hydrogen CNG in Delhi

DTC and Cluster buses of the Delhi Government will soon run by Hydrogen CNG (Hydrogen Compressed Natural Gas) to control pollution. Under the orders of the Supreme Court, HCNG will be used for buses in Delhi for the first time. In order to use hydrogen CNG in buses, the government will soon start pilot project with the cooperation of other agencies.


  • Under this, in the first phase of the use of HCNG, 50 cluster buses will be run on the roads of Delhi for 6 months.
  •  The project will be monitored by the Environmental Pollution(Prevention and Control) Authority ie. EPCA.
  • Preparations for making the first hydrogen CNG station in Delhi have already begun.
  • This hydrogen CNG station will be built by Indraprastha Gas Limited and Indian Oil Corporation Limited at the cluster depot located at Rajghat.
  • Hydrogen CNG fuel will also be used in DTC and other cluster buses after successful hydrogen CNG testing in cluster buses.
  • Using this new vehicle fuel, it will be concluded how much help can be achieved in reducing the level of pollution and how much better it can prove from CNG.
  • The Supreme Court will review the report of the hydrogen CNG for 6 months in buses as a trial.
  • If the results prove to be better, hydrogen CNG may start operating in other vehicles as of November 2019.


  • Continuous pollution is increasing in the capital Delhi.
  • Pollution is causing people a lot of trouble in breathing, and many diseases are likely to spread.
  • The project will be started shortly after the Supreme Court order.
  • Although the project is delayed by 3 months but it is expected that the project will be completed soon.
  • With this, there will not be any change in Delhi's CNG pump.
