Cabinet gives approval for continuation of fourth phase of GSLV

The Union Cabinet has approved the continuation of the fourth phase of Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) on April 15, 2019. Fourth phase involves 5 GSLV flights during the period of 2021-24.

GSLV Program - Step 4 will provide the ability to launch two-ton class satellites for geo-imaging, navigation, data relay communication and space science. For this mission, a total of Rs. 2729.13 crore will be required to fund, including 5 GSLV vehicles, increase in essential facilities, and cost of program management and launch campaign. Excess funds will be required as per the prospects of the existing GSLV continuity program.

Benefit:-

GSLV Continuity Program - To provide important satellite shipping services through Phase 4, will help to meet the needs of satellites related to data relay communication related to Indian human space flight program and next Mars mission. This will also ensure the continuation of production at the domestic level.

GSLV Continuity Program- The demand for launching two satellites from Phase 4 will be complete, in which the industry will be the largest participant. All operational flights will be completed during the period of 2021-24.

Major Impact:-

GSLV operation has become self-reliant in the field of launching two-ton class satellites in view of country's communication and meteorological satellites. GSLV Continuity Program will keep self-reliance in launching similar satellites, keeping in mind the national requirements and capacity addition. It includes the next generation of shipping satellites, Data Relay Communications Satellite and Inter-Planet Campaign.
