Assam NRC final list will be released tomorrow

The process of preparation of National Citizen Register (NRC) in Assam has been completed. Final NRC List will be released on 31 August 2019. The Union Home Minister Amit Shah has appealed to the people of Assam to ignore the rumors. On 29 August 2019, Assam Police also appealed to the people not to get into the rumors being spread by the elements trying to create confusion in the society.

The Home Ministry has made it clear that the absence of a person's name in the NRC does not mean that he has been declared as a foreigner. The Ministry of Home Affairs has said that all those left out of the last NRC can appeal to the foreign tribunal. The number of foreign tribunals is being increased. The deadline for filing an appeal has been increased from 60 days to 120 days.

Highlights

  • In the NRC draft issued on 31 July 2018, the names of 40.7 lakh people were excluded from the list.
  •  After this, on 26 June 2019, an additional draft list came out in which names of about one lakh more people were removed from the list.
  • The final list of NRC is now being published on 31 August 2019.
  • The Supreme Court is fully monitoring the process of NRC.
  • Its main objective is to identify illegal immigrants in Assam.
  • This list will be released on NRC Assam's official website www.nrcassam.nic.in on 31 August 2019.

Process to check list

  • Log on to www.nrcassam.nic.in or www.assam.gov.in.
  • Find a link to the status of the supplementary findings / removal list (final NRC) status.
  • Type your application reference number (ARNs) to check whether your name is part of the last NRC.

What If your name is not in the list

  • The Union Home Ministry has made it very clear that no person will be declared as a foreign citizen only because of the nomination in the NRC.
  • Those whose names are not included in it, will have to appear before the foreign tribunal with the documents.
  • There is a provision to give 120 days time to the person for this.
  • However, if the applicant is dissatisfied with the decision of the foreign tribunal, then he also has the right to go to the High Court or the Supreme Court.

National Register of Citizens  Assam

The NRC is a list of all citizens domiciled in Assam. Currently, updates are being made to retain genuine citizens within the state and to expel illegal migrants from Bangladesh. It was first prepared in the year 1951.

Backgrounds

  • Citizenship is being identified in Assam for the first time since 1951.
  • The main reason for this is the large number of people living illegally in the state.
  • The final list of NRC is being made under the supervision of the Supreme Court.
  • The main objective of updating the list of NRC is to identify those who have migrated to Assam in large numbers from neighboring country Bangladesh in the early 20th century.
  • To be included in the current list of NRC, the name of the family of the person should be in the first citizenship register made in the year 1951 or in the election list till March 24, 1971.
  •  Other documents for this include birth certificate, refugee registration certificate, land and tenancy records, citizenship certificate, permanent housing certificate, passport, LIC policy, government issued license or certificate, bank or post office account, government job certificate, educational Must have certificate and court record.
