1700 biological species threatens extinction due to humans: study

Man has been increasingly taking the natural habitat of other living beings by increasing the land use for selfish interests and due to this, 1700 species of animals can be prone to extinction in the next 50 years.

In a study published in the journal “Nature Climate Change”, it has been said that other animals may have to bear the brunt of the ever increasing land use by humans.

Major points of study

  • Actually, due to this the natural habitat of other organisms is decreasing and this is the reason why 1700 species of organisms are prone to extinction.
  • Professor Walter Jets at the US-based Yale University said that through our analysis, we came to know that due to political and economic decisions related to global land use, the natural habitat of living organisms worldwide is likely to be reduced.
  • It was found in the study that by increasing the land use by humans, there is a possibility of an increase in the risk of extinction of 1700 species in the next 50 years.
  • Researchers said that by the year 2070, about 30 to 50 percent of these species can lose natural habitat.
